Who Could Star in Gladiator 2?
In the original movie, Russell Crowe played the title character, Maximus, the titular general. The Gladiator sequel’s plot and characters are being kept tightly under wraps, although it’s likely that Russell Crowe’s character from the first epic might make a return through flashbacks.
A supernatural sequel that would have brought Crowe’s character back from the grave through the body of a martyred Christian would have been written by singer-songwriter Nick Cave. The strange script was ultimately turned down, but Scott said last year that he had plans for Maximus to come back.
He told Entertainment Weekly, “I know how to bring him back. “But he’s dead,” I was saying in my conversation with the studio. However, there is a method for getting him back. “I don’t know if it will happen. Russell’s modified a tiny bit because Gladiator was released in 2000. I’m attempting to bring him back here, but he’s now engaged in something.

Scott will return to the director’s chair for the follow-up film, working alongside screenwriter Peter Craig (The Batman, Top Gun: Maverick).

Fans will recall that Spencer Treat Clark played young Lucius, who saw the last conflict between Maximus and Commodus. It’s reasonable to infer that the fight’s conclusion would have significantly impacted the boy.
Although we don’t yet know what will happen in this story about Lucius, it’s not unreasonable to assume that since the movie is called Gladiator 2 (or will likely have the word “Gladiator” in its title), Lucius himself will be made to fight in the Colosseum—possibly because he is the nephew of the perverse and dishonest Commodus.
